The raw measurements behind each row
Every input the score is computed from, so you can redo the arithmetic against the published formulas without running anything. Relevance is the share of sampled titles that share a word stem with the query. Raw listings multiplied by relevance, rounded, gives the effective count.
| Niche | Raw listings | Relevance | Effective | Under $5 | Shops per 100 | Sampled (UTC) |

Sampled 9 August 2026, all rows within twenty minutes of each other. Shops per 100 counts distinct sellers within the sampled page, so on a shelf under 100 listings it is a count of the whole shelf.
Reading the table
Freelance client onboarding template pack, 68. The highest score here and the clearest case. A shelf of 144 relevant listings with a median of $14.50 is a category with room and buyers who pay above the marketplace norm for digital goods. The price is doing most of the work in that score.
Wedding seating chart planner printable, 60. A thousand relevant listings is a busy shelf that has not tipped over: the saturation floor sits at 2,000 and this is roughly half of it. A $9.99 median holds up despite the crowd, which is the interesting part. Enterable, but not on price and not with a generic version.
Perimenopause symptom tracker printable, 57. 852 listings at $8.99. Compare it to the wedding row: similar crowd, similar price, three points lower. That gap is competition arithmetic, not editorial preference, and it is reproducible.
ADHD medication side effect tracker, 41 listings. A small, specific shelf at a healthy median. Small is not weak. Forty-one relevant listings means the category is real and nobody has flooded it. This is the shape most worth a closer look for a first entry.
Small batch soap making recipe log, exactly 10. This one sits precisely on the market floor. One relevant listing fewer and the verdict flips to dead. Treat the 55 as fragile and re-measure before committing anything to it.
Youth soccer coach practice planner, 49. Seventy-seven listings, but a $5.26 median. The demand side is fine. The pricing side is where the score goes. Buyers here expect to pay very little, so the margin has to come from volume or from a bundle.
Montessori toddler activity cards printable, saturated. 7,368 relevant listings and a $3.50 median. Both signals point the same way: a crowded shelf that has already competed itself down on price. Not unenterable, but not enterable on a generic product.
Sourdough hydration calculator spreadsheet, dead. Seven relevant listings. A real category, and a negligible one. Worth saying plainly: a low count is not automatically an untapped opportunity. Sometimes a shelf is empty because the thing is given away free elsewhere, and a spreadsheet calculator is a strong candidate for exactly that.
The floor is visible in this table
Two rows sit on either side of it. Small batch soap making at an effective count of 10 is sweet. Sourdough hydration at 7 is dead. Nothing else separates them, and the threshold is published rather than inferred.
That is the point of a deterministic method: you can see where a verdict came from, disagree with the floor, and know exactly which number you are disagreeing with. The floor that decides this pair is the well-supported one. The floor that decides the wedding row against the montessori row is not, and the methodology page says why.
Why every row reads high confidence
All eight rows read high, and that is not a coincidence. It is arithmetic. The band divides the listings returned by the listings the request could have returned, and that ceiling is one page of 100. On any shelf of 100 or more, a full page over a full page is complete coverage and the band reads high by construction.
The montessori row makes the point. Its shelf holds 7,596 listings, 100 were read, one in seventy-six, and the band says high alongside every other row. On that row the band tells you nothing. Read the raw and effective columns instead: they are what separate a shelf measured whole, like the 41 listings of the ADHD row, from a shelf measured by a slice. The methodology page gives the formula.
Limits of this brief
Etsy only. Listing presence, not sales. Up to 100 listings sampled per query. No trend direction and no seasonality correction: a wedding category measured in August is measured in August.
The score is a function of the measurement, not of the moment you read it. The same sampled data always produces the same number. The measurement itself is live: re-running any query here will resample the shelf, and a shelf that has gained or lost listings since 9 August 2026 will produce a different count and possibly a different verdict. That is the data moving, not the method.
That is why the raw measurements are printed above rather than left behind a scan. Everything needed to redo the arithmetic is on this page, and you should not have to spend a scan to audit a claim we made. If you want to run your own query anyway, the scanner needs no account: fifteen scans per IP address in any rolling twenty-four hours, each one a light scan. A free account raises that to fifteen a day with the first three returning the full report. If you produce for clients, the brief format applies the same method to a list you supply.
