Wedding Seating Charts on Etsy: 1,061 Listings That Did Not Cut Their Price

Michael TremblayAugust 10, 20266 min read

A busy shelf that held $9.99. Measured on 9 August against a category seven times its size that collapsed to $3.50. Density alone does not explain a price.

A measurement of the wedding seating chart planner market on Etsy, taken on 9 August 2026: 1,061 relevant active listings, a median price of $9.99, 28 percent of the shelf under five dollars, and 85 distinct shops per 100 listings. It is a busy shelf that has not competed itself down, which is not the usual outcome at that size. Active listings are a measure of supply, not of sales.

The wedding seating chart planner shelf on Etsy held 1,061 relevant active listings when measured on 9 August 2026, at a median price of $9.99 with 28 percent under five dollars and 85 distinct shops per 100 listings. A category measured the same evening with about seven times the listings had fallen to a $3.50 median with 70 percent of its shelf under five dollars. Shelf size alone does not predict a price collapse. The measurement covers Etsy only and says nothing about how many listings sell.

Who buys a seating chart planner

Somebody with a spreadsheet they have already given up on.

Seating is the last hard problem in wedding planning and the one that resists a general tool. It arrives late, after the RSVPs, when the guest count is finally real. It changes repeatedly in the last three weeks. It carries constraints no template can guess: who cannot sit near whom, which table needs to be close to the door, which grandparent needs to be away from the speakers. And it ends in something that has to be printed and displayed, so it is a design problem and a logic problem at once.

That combination is why people pay for it rather than building it. They are not buying inspiration or a planning philosophy. They are buying a way out of a problem they have already tried to solve themselves, three weeks before a deadline that does not move.

What the measurement says

Measured on 9 August 2026 at 21:46 UTC, as part of the August niche brief. Every figure below comes from that single pass against live Etsy listings.

Measurement Value
Raw listings returned 1,072
Relevance density 99%
Effective listings 1,061
Median price $9.99
Share priced under $5 28%
Distinct shops per 100 listings 85
Verdict Sweet, grade C
Score 60 out of 100

Everything below uses 1,061, not 1,072. Eleven of the listings Etsy returned were judged not relevant to the query and were dropped before anything was calculated. That is what a relevance density of 99 percent means. It is a small correction here, and it matters that it happens at all: a raw result count includes whatever the search engine decided to show you, and on some queries that is most of the page.

Active listings are supply, not demand. A shelf of 1,061 listings tells you 1,061 sellers thought this was worth publishing and have kept paying the listing fee to keep it there. It does not tell you how many of them sold anything this month. Sales are visible only inside the shop that made them.

Two crowded shelves, one price collapse

The same evening, the same method, a category with roughly seven times the listings:

Wedding seating chart Montessori activity cards
Effective listings 1,061 7,368
Median price $9.99 $3.50
Share under $5 28% 70%
Verdict Sweet Saturated

The Montessori shelf is what a price collapse looks like from outside. Seven listings in ten are asking less than five dollars, and the middle of the shelf is at $3.50. A new seller arriving there has one lever, and pulling it makes the shelf worse for everyone including them.

The wedding shelf is busy by any reasonable definition, and it did not do that. Nearly three quarters of it is still asking more than five dollars.

The measurement does not explain why, and I am not going to invent a reason. What it does show is that shelf size on its own does not predict what a category charges. Two crowded shelves, measured the same way within the same hour, ended up nearly three times apart on price.

The price is normal, and that is the point

$9.99 is not a premium price on Etsy. Across the 1,270 niches with measurable demand in our 2026 niche report, the median sat at $9.77. This shelf is within a few cents of the marketplace norm.

That reframes the opportunity. This is not a category where buyers pay unusually well, the way the freelance onboarding template shelf does at a $14.50 median with only 10 percent under five dollars. It is a category that stayed ordinary while carrying a thousand listings, when the usual outcome at that size is to go cheap.

For someone entering, the practical reading is narrow and useful: you will not out-price this shelf, and you do not have to undercut it either. The middle is at ten dollars and it has held there. The decision that matters is what your version does that the other 1,061 do not, because price is not the axis anyone is winning on.

1,061 listings and 85 shops

1,061 effective listings sits at about 53 percent of the saturation ceiling. The scoring calls a shelf sweet from 10 to 1,999 relevant listings and saturated at 2,000 and above, so this is a busy shelf that has not tipped over rather than a thin one.

85 distinct shops per 100 listings says the shelf is held by many sellers rather than a few catalogues. At this size that is worth knowing: a thousand listings held by fifty shops would be a different market from a thousand held by hundreds, even at the same price. Listing count and shop concentration are weighted against each other in the score, which is why a busy but fragmented shelf lands well above a busy and consolidated one.

If wedding products interest you generally, the culturally specific end of that market is a separate and much emptier shelf, covered here.

What this does not tell you

I did not read 1,061 listings, so I cannot tell you what the good ones contain, which formats buyers prefer, or where the gap is. Anyone who tells you otherwise from a listing count is guessing.

The limits are worth stating plainly. This reads Etsy and nothing else. The price and shop figures come from a 100-listing sample rather than all 1,061, which matters more here than on a small shelf. There is no sales data in any of it. And weddings are seasonal in a way this measurement cannot see: one evening in August is not a year, and a category that peaks in spring would read differently in March.

To run the same reading on a phrasing of your own, the niche scanner measures it against live listings without an account.
